Japan Trip: Beauty Haul!

If you’ve been following my Instagram, you couldn’t miss that for my winter vacation this year, I jetted across the sea to the Land of the Rising Sun. Not only this, but I was lucky enough to have my mum fly over from England and meet me for a one week adventure in Kyoto and Osaka.

Of course while I was there, I did some beauty shopping! The beauty scene in Japan is unique and pretty nuts compared to anywhere else I’ve shopped. I tried to refrain from going as crazy as I did on my last trip, and only purchased products I felt weren’t easily available (or are way more pricey) in Korea. So gonna share my haul, and I’ve also included some travel photos and information at the end of the post, for those of you who are interested!

My Top 10 Beauty Bargains at Daiso

Daiso. If you don’t know what Daiso is, you haven’t lived my friend. Daiso is the Japanese version of the dollar store or poundland- only a million times better. The stores are situated in many countries all over the world (why not the UK yet? I hear you, and I don’t know why, sob), but after Japan, Korea has the highest number of shops. You can literally discover ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING in these stores; one of my most recent useful purchases is a mini toilet brush that curves at the neck to get right into, and clean, the area under the rim of the bowl where the water comes out…yeah they think of all your needs, ever. But the best bit for me? Their beauty section. Here are my top beauty purchases from Daiso- mostly in Korea, but a couple from Japan too, and all of them are under 5000 won (roughly $5/£3.50).

Review: Chateau Labiotte Wine Lipstick

Call me basic, but I love wine and I love lipstick. So a wine lipstick? Yeah, count me in.

Who the hell are Labiotte?!

I’d never heard about Labiotte until they became famous for these cute little vino products. Turns out they’re actually little sister company of Tony Moly, with a more sophisticated and slightly more expensive vibe. If you want more information on the Labiotte brand story you can check it out here. But to keep it brief, their mission is to combine dermatological research, ‘powerful energy of pure nature’, and the pursuit of healthy skin and beauty to create their products. I also like that (if their actions actually do match their words) they follow eco friendly policies and support environmental campaigns.

Onto what you came for, the lipstick…

My Favourite K-Beauty Makeup Picks of 2016

I’ve been finding it pretty hard to sit down and focus on my blog recently…I’ve felt tired and kinda down, January always does this to me. It’s not my month! But enough self  wallowing in nothing. I had a great 2016 year in terms of Korean makeup. In 2015, I found a lot of the products I bought to be hit or miss, and a little bland. But with some new fabulous base makeup, and bolder brighter colours in the shops, I discovered some gems for myself and my face in twenty sixteen! Onto my choices.

Some of these products were provided by individuals/companies for my review consideration. These will be specifically disclosed in the text. See my disclaimer for more information on my collaborations.

Review: Berrisom Lip Tint Pack

image

If you follow my Instagram, I’m sure you think I’m being paid or bribed by Berrisom right now- not the case haha. I keep mentioning their products A LOT. Let me explain…Brenda from Berrisom reached out to me, offering to send me some ‘samples’, with no pressure to review. I liked her friendly, laid back vibe and lack of pushiness so I agreed. They sent me the BIGGEST box of full size products, and after trying their products, I’ve really fallen in love with a number of their pieces of makeup (products provided free of charge, but all opinions expressed here are 100% my own). The product that really interested me and grabbed my attention were the My Lip Tint Packs. I’d seen these before, and once I tried them, I realised why I’d read so many great reviews!

Review: History of Whoo Gongjinhyang Mi Luxury Golden Cushion

Straight up: I only bought this cushion for the packaging. Literally. I knew nothing about History of Whoo cushions, had read no reviews, tested it on my hand in store to check the shade, then bought it. Can you blame me? It’s the most beautiful piece of makeup I own, and for that reason alone, I love it. But once I got it home, obviously I did want to try it and use it, and to let you guys know how it performs aside from it’s luxurious packaging.

The Face Shop x Disney CC Cushion: Mike Wazowski got made into a cushion and here’s what I thought!

These collections are getting slightly overwhelming, and are definitely a bit of a ‘mare for us K-Beauty addicts living in Seoul. The cute collaborations are continually arriving on the streets surrounding my apartment, and they’re successfully making it very difficult to walk past without being drawn into the stores, and emptying my wallet on the newest Kakao lipstick, Line Friend’s blusher, or this time, probably the last thing I expected, Mike Wazowski in cushion form. But Mike arrived in all his green glory at my local Faceshop, and yes I bought it.

Review: Heroine Long and Curl Mascara

When I was in Japan back in February, I did a criminal amount of shopping. Something I was desperate to pick up was Japanese mascara. I’ve always read such great things about Heroine, and was keen to see if it was all hype, or actually a great brand. I went for the Long and Curl Super Waterproof Black Mascara in the end.

Seoul Selections- June 12th

I’m a little late with last weeks Seoul Selections. When I originally drafted this, I was feeling exhausted after a stressful week at work, a slight stomach bug, and very little sleep. After the tragedy of Orlando, my minor troubles have really been put into perspective. I feel so deeply saddened by the events in Florida, and I’m praying for the victims and also the community as we come together to support LGBTQ. I attended Seoul Pride this past Saturday, and instead of feeling deflated at the hatred/ignorance of the counter marchers, I felt truly inspired by the love and happiness of all the Pride supporters, and the sense of togetherness. I just hope that every person in the LGBTQ community knows that for all the hate and ignorance, there are SO many people worldwide in support of equality and happiness for all. I’m thinking of the Orlando victims and their families, and for all of those affected by this terrorist act.

It was amazing to see so many Koreans and expats from all over the world come together in central Seoul to support equality for everyone.
