Commleaf are a brand that truly won my heart last year, and have been a firm favourite ever since! I even discussed my love for them with Maree on Beauty & Seoul and I’m very pleased they are now available here in the UK. A couple of months ago, I received two of their newest products directly from Commleaf (PR gifted), and the Surely Green 100 Face Oil immediately got my interest. Let’s see what it is and how it worked for me.
Purpose & How To
The oil is for all skin types for moisturising and soothing. I personally like to use oils at night for intense moisturizing in addition to cream. Directions as per Commleaf:
Step 1) Take one to three drops of Commleaf Surely Green 100 Face Oil on palms. Rub both palms to mix them using body temperature.
Step 2) Apply to face using both palms and gently press for absorption.
Tip: Also good to use in a mixture with any makeup or skincare item in your regimen. Good for dry and rough hair as well. For hair, apply a small amount to the ends.
Product Details & Ingredients
Size: 30ml
Ingredients:
Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Oil
So as we can see- oily! All ingredients are “nature-originated” and free from artificial scents, artificial colours/pigments, sulfates and parabens. Commleaf takes the EWG grading very seriously, and all ingredients are EWG grade 0-2, or “safe”. I personally disagree with EWG, and see them as nothing more than a fear-mongering group. However I appreciate that a lot of people see value in their grading system, and if you are one of those people, this ingredients list and Commleaf as a brand in general should definitely have your attention. They are also cruelty free and this oil is vegan.
Packaging
The aesthetics of the bottle are stunning. It’s heavy weight glass and a unique shape. It’s really beautiful, and being glass, is much better for the environment compared to plastic packaging. The dispenser is a dropper. Usually I like dropper, but this one isn’t the best. It’s really loose so the product kind of drips out. It’s not terrible but it’s also not great.
Something I think is really cool: Commleaf packaging is in line with FSC, or Forest Stewardship Council. They’re a non-governmental, non-profit organisation “that sets the standards for what is a responsibly managed forest, both environmentally and socially”. You can read more here, but basically if you see the motto on packaging, it means that it has been made from responsible sources, as this packaging has. Love this!
Texture & Scent
I have to be honest and say it took me a MINUTE to get used to both the texture and the scent of this oil.
The scent comes from the neroli oil, and at first I was like nope, not for me. Too earthy. But after a while, I’ve actually done a complete 180 and I’m honestly loving it. It’s strong and quite overwhelming at first, so if you’re able to get hold of a sample or test the product first, I would advise it if you’re sensitive to scents. I have definitely come to appreciate the earthy scent and am really into it now.
The texture is so so heavy. It’s the most nourishing, intensely moisturizing oil I have tried to date. With the 10 oils in the ingredients list, it shouldn’t have really been a surprise. But I was applying way too much at first and you really do only need a single drop or two for your entire face. It takes quite some time for my skin to absorb, but because I do my skincare routine as I’m relaxing in bed, this is fine for me. It feels incredibly luxurious because of how rich it is, and it is one of my favourites if I decide to indulge in for a little facial massage.
Overall Performance
The first thing to note is that I don’t reach for this every day and night. I reach for this when my skin feels tired and dry in the evenings. I experience more dryness in my skin these days than I ever have before, and this is an absolute godsend for when I have tightness and dry patches. Adding a drop to a moisturizer is also fantastic, and really gives a cream that extra boost. However it’s too much for my skin during the day, as my skin ends up looking a bit greasy.
Overall, it’s a completely luxurious and self-indulgent experience from the beautiful packaging to the incredible texture. I appreciate that, because I want to enjoy my experience with a product, not just the results. This fully gives me that sensory experience, and I appreciate the environmental responsibility Commleaf take very seriously.
Would I recommend it to everyone? Yes and no. If you’ve never tried a facial oil before, I’d suggest going for something lighter like Olivarrier Squalane Fluid Oil before going for a rich oil like this Commleaf Oil. If I’d tried this while I was still terrified of putting oil on my face, I think I’d have struggled with the heaviness. My natural inclination is also to say this may not be the best for oily skin types, however my friend Michele on Instagram (@colebiancardi , follow her for awesome in-depth reviews) has oily dehydrated skin and loves using this at night. So, I guess to the majority, particularly those who enjoy facial oils, I would 100% recommend this. It’s a high quality, elegant product which gives skin intense moisturizing and, if used overnight, a beautiful glow.
Price & Availability
Now I wrote this entire review, then searched for product availability online. To my dismay, I couldn’t find this 30ml bottle anywhere. I reached out to Commleaf directly and they explained the oil is actually going through re-packaging and will be available again in a couple of months. Right now, it is still available in Seoul in Aritaum LIVE stores, as well as the Commleaf flagship store in Apgujeong-Rodeo. I am unsure of the pricing, but all I can say is that this bottle is going to last me FOREVER. Using literally one drop, you can see how little I have used over the past few months despite using it frequently.
Hope you enjoyed this review, have a great week ahead!

My experience with this oil has been similar to yours, including the fact that I initially hated the smell but have come to love it. To get around the problem of the oil dripping out of the dropper, I find that if you squeeze the dropper over the bottle until there are only a few drops left and then use it, it won’t leak out, in other words only drop from a nearly empty pipette (does that make sense?). Also, I find that a couple of drops mixed in with the Klairs toner is absolutely sublime. I really love this product. I was gifted it by Blingdear and I believe it’s available on their site.
Hey Jane, ah interesting that we’ve both had such a similar experience! The scent really does grow on you doesn’t it? Thanks so much for the tip about the dropper, I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks for reading!
