Hi my loves! I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their summer. Today’s post is more personal, so feel free to click on something else now if that doesn’t interest you (or if you watched my newly uploaded Youtube video of similar theme)! I just wanted to share a little update, ongoing from my update last year that I shared. So, I guess the big news is that I’m a new US resident! Let me explain what’s been going on…
If you’ve stuck with me over the past few years, firstly THANK YOU. I really appreciate it. You’ll know that I lived in Korea from 2014-2018, and that’s when I started this blog. I met the love of my life, Mikey, over there and we left Korea together last year to figure out our next steps and be in one country together permanently. He features quite a lot on my IG stories so I’m sure some of you know him haha. Anywaaay, Mikey landed an awesome job in the industry he wanted in Richmond, Virginia and has gone from strength to strength in that position, with great future potential too. We decided that for us as a couple, the US was going to be the best option for us to settle down, and have the life we want for ourselves and a future family.
Many of you may know, US immigration is TOUGH. And rightfully so, of course. You have to go through a lot to get here, so it’s been a roller coaster over the months trying to make sure we were doing everything correctly and in the most time-efficient way. But I’m here in Richmond with him finally! And I couldn’t feel any happier for us to finally start our lives together.
I think a lot of people probably have a really rose-tinted view of my life through my IG, because I don’t really post the super personal things or the down days, but things have not been easy over the last year and I don’t expect the new few months to be particularly easy either. Moving to a new country, although certainly a privilege and something I’m incredibly grateful for, involves continued admin with immigration, getting a social security card, opening bank accounts, having to take my drivers test again (nope, I can’t switch in my UK license sadly), getting insurance, trying to understand the systems here, getting a job, and, despite England and the US seeming fairly similar, a level of culture shock! Things are just different, and being a super independent person, it’s hard to be so dependent on Mikey for basically everything at the moment. He’s so supportive though and I’m so appreciative to have a partner who I can trust and rely on. I knew there’d be an adjustment period when I first arrived here and overall I’m feeling really positive and happy, ready to embrace everything.
In terms of beauty, my IG and this blog, I am obviously going to continue! I’ll keep sharing reviews and thoughts on K-beauty, as well as explore what’s available here in the US. Right now I do not have a full time job, but I am doing my freelance beauty content work which I love. My main role is as Senior Editor over at Beautchat, an online and offline beauty & lifestyle community that you should definitely check out. If you live in LA or plan on attending Beautycon LA August 10th and 11th, come see me! I’ll be at our Beautchat booth and I’d LOVE to meet you. So yeah, I’m really enjoying doing that right now. I’m also looking to increase my personal content, and, dare I say it, potentially get back into my Youtube channel?!
Ultimately, this is a really exciting new chapter and I’m ready for it. I’m so grateful that I’m here, that I can be with Mikey, and have the opportunity to start afresh in my new home after a year of not really knowing where our future lay. Mikey and I also have our wedding celebration next year in England with our family and friends that we can’t wait for, so you know there’ll be lots of upcoming bridal content too. Thank you, as always, for the continued support. I don’t know what I’d do without my online beauty community, and I hope you’ll continue to stick around.
Much love! x
