K-Beauty Event Report: After 6pm All About K-Beauty

On September 3rd I attended a new beauty event called After 6pm: All About K-Beauty. The organisers are trying to bring together those interested in Korean beauty, in Seoul, with monthly events. I attended their 3rd event at Mary’s April in Gangnam, and wanted to briefly let you know how it was! (Disclosure: I was provided a free ticket, but this in no way affects my review. All opinions expressed here are my own).

The location was beautiful. It was about a 10 minute walk from Gangnam station, and was in a function room. It was well organised with the ticket desk right inside the door, then a snacks and beverages table in the centre of the room, with the lights and tutorial area set up against the back wall. The vibe was relaxed, and I really liked the lighting.

The structure of the event was 30 minutes of socialising at the beginning of the evening, followed by the tutorial, and finally a raffle. There was a table with water and various little snacks (including mini donuts which, quite frankly, sold me). The tutorial was ‘fall makeup’ Korean style, shown by Korean beauty youtuber Scarlett Sohn, with an English speaking host to translate, and a powerpoint showing the products used.

How was the tutorial?

The tutorial was interesting. It was aimed at dry skin as fall comes around, and based on burgundy and brown tones. It was very much Korean style- highlighted, glowy skin; extremely light contouring; very natural eye makeup; shorter, more red tinted brows; and a gradient lip. Although Scarlett did not speak English, the host did a good job of translating. Scarlett gave a few useful tips along the way such as:

  • Before cushion makeup, use a tip concealer for the best texture under a cushion.
  • Use a highlighting base on the centre of your face before your cushion for a shining light effect.
  • Contour the front of your ear, as it’s naturally very white and bright and stands out, so you want it to blend more.

The eye makeup was pretty, with light autumnal tones on the lid, plus burgundy eyeliner and mascara for the burned look, which is so popular in Korea right now. She also did a classic Korean gradient lip with burgundy, which I really liked.

The only thing that I was disappointed with was the powerpoint. It wasn’t completed and wasn’t in time with the tutorial, so it wasn’t easy to note down the products Scarlett used.

After the tutorial there was a fun little raffle with 6 (if I remember rightly) free beauty gifts for the winners, from the groups sponsors. Unfortunately I didn’t win, but the goodies looked nice!

Overall I enjoyed this event, and will most likely attend their Halloween themed tutorial in October. We filled in feedback forms at the end, and so I’m sure the (very) minor issues at this event will be ironed out for next time. An enjoyable evening, and I’m looking forward to trying some of the colour combinations we were shown.
