Call me basic, but I love wine and I love lipstick. So a wine lipstick? Yeah, count me in.
Who the hell are Labiotte?!
I’d never heard about Labiotte until they became famous for these cute little vino products. Turns out they’re actually little sister company of Tony Moly, with a more sophisticated and slightly more expensive vibe. If you want more information on the Labiotte brand story you can check it out here. But to keep it brief, their mission is to combine dermatological research, ‘powerful energy of pure nature’, and the pursuit of healthy skin and beauty to create their products. I also like that (if their actions actually do match their words) they follow eco friendly policies and support environmental campaigns.
Onto what you came for, the lipstick…
What is it?
Whilst they have a whole range of wine lipsticks and tints, the one I’ll be reviewing today is a ‘Fitting’ Wine Lipstick in RD01 Malbec Burgundy. In layman’s terms, this is a purple/berry colour matte lipstick. It contains actual Chateau Margaux Wine Extract which apparently “keeps the condition of the lips healthy”.
Packaging
I mean, it speaks for itself. It’s a perfect miniature bottle of wine. It’s sleek and easy to hold and carry. It’s amazing, and the perfect gift for wine lovers in your life. The top of the lipstick case matches your chosen shade, and can be removed to reveal a small sponge. I think this is a fantastic touch and great for perfecting a gradient lip look, so popular in Korea.
Colour
I went for RD01, a GORGEOUS deep, burgundy/purpley/redish – you got it – wine colour. The official title is Malbec Burgundy. Here it is on:
The colour is really pigmented but can also be layered very lightly if you just want a faint bitten lip look, using the sponge applicator (kinda what I did above in the second image). I’m totally obsessed with the shade, and it’s perfect for fall and winter.
Application
This is where the lipstick comes into it’s own, and makes it a great option for me. It glides so easily over lips, truly moisturising without settling into cracks or highlighting dry patches. It’s incredibly comfortable, even when reapplying without a lip balm base. Because the colour is so pigmented it doesn’t take more than a couple of swipes. The shape of the lipstick is also better than many, but I always like to go up to the edges with a lip brush and tidy with concealer around my lip line, regardless of which lipstick I’m using.
Lasting Power
I like a lipstick that’s got me for a Saturday afternoon shopping in Myeongdong, right through to an evening of dancing, cocktail in hand, in Hongdae.
Sure, I’m asking a lot, but I’ve got high standards and I’m lazy.
Sadly, this isn’t the one for lasting. If I lightly brush my lips against anything the transfer is real, and results in smudging and fading with even the slightest drinking or eating activity. Whilst your lips certainly stay tinted and kinda stained with the colour, the finish becomes patchy if you don’t reapply.
(However I have found a solution to this- using a lip color top coat. The one I’ve tried was kindly provided by Laonjenna shop and it totally stopped smudging and made the color last longer, bonus).
Moisture
How can a matte lipstick be moisturising and matte? I have no idea, but this lipstick is the bomb in terms of moisture levels. I have terribly dry lips and lipsticks can be a pain to wear well, particularly matte lipsticks which honestly I usually run and cower and hide from. But this one totallllllly keeps my lips good (although I do still use a lipbalm underneath), and, as I said before, is a dream to apply. It’s a wonderful creamy formula that doesn’t stick to dry patches, even after an hour or so and after reapplication.
Price Point
Not bad at all- 16,000 Korean won in store. They were actually having a crazy sale the day I went in and I ended up getting this totally free on a 2 for 1 deal as I bought my friend’s birthday gift. But honestly I’d pay the full price. Online it’s looking around the $15 mark.
I didn’t expect to be reaching for this lipstick as much as I am. But the combination of a beautiful colour, matte, velvety finish, yet incredibly moisturising and comfortable formula, makes it a total winner for me and my sorry dry lips.
Have you tried any of the Labiotte wine range?
